The Beautiful Ones

It is a place called Orovme, a land where peace reigns they say. I had journeyed so far and I knew this had to be the very place. I felt it in my heart.

My name is Ertumeh, the last one of the Unemoh tribe from the Northeast of Naiga. The Unemohs being very proud people had only married within and were sacrified to the gods in a battle with the much greater tribes, I had been adopted at an early age by one of the warriors of Rughelli, because they had seen my star and it was very glorious The Rughelli had ravaged my tribe. When I had reached the age of Wisdom, I had been arranged to marry a daughter of the chief advisor to the Twose, King of Rughelli but I ran away before the crack of dawn, just 300 full moons old, I couldn’t take it anymore, I had known this time would come, the time I would have to seek the peace for my tribe.

The Rughellis had never really feared this, their soothsayers gave them little reason to though they believed I would only possess distant memories as in a long forgotten dream. They had fed me with various lies, but the truth of what had been was revealed to me by the gracious gods, Atpase and Werurn guardians of the human stream.

I have traveled across the lands through the great plains of Akpole and the hills of Ushi.

I have finally come to the place I can call home. It is a land where every weary traveler can rest his feet, where every troubled soul can gain some peace.

The path to the land as I looked around was just as beautiful as the name, lush green vegetation as far as the eyes could see, every creature I came across looked healthy, the fruits I picked to quench my hunger were the sweetest I had ever tasted. The path way was of red dust, the one my people would call Fumo, it was rich in good things, and they said it is what the gods used to build their abode.

Surely I was at the best place I could be, Orovme, Orovme such sweetness, such splendor!!

The sun was already going down as I turned into a trail where I could see the signs of human settlement, I wanted to stay back in the woods, sit atop a hill and watch the sun take its bow, definitely the most stunning sunset I had ever seen. But I knew I couldn’t because where the beautiful ones lay was more dangerous than the mouth of a cobra.

Peace I sought, Peace I found as I stepped into the town, everything was different it was special , I cannot explain it, I was beckoned to the great doors of the temple, I needed to make my request before the sun went down or I would be taken by the beautiful ones, finding only peace for myself.

I felt the weight of the creeping shadows; it came gradually like in slow motion, the realization, the surrender. I knew I wasn’t fast enough, I shouldn’t have stopped to eat those glistening fruit, i should have tried harder. I couldn’t weep as the dark finally flooded the town and the beautiful ones swept me in their arms and took me to the land that is truely Orovme, where the beautiful ones lay.

It was a good day

I usually set my alarm for 6am and I hardly get up till 6:30 and I inevitably get stuck in traffic and everyone knows how the Island situation goes. But on this certain day, at the stroke of 6, I got right up like Barbie on steroids, I said my prayers, had a shower, took my multivitamins and juice, yup I am a health nut like that, nothing was out of place. I only had to check my self in the mirror once, I was looking perfectly hot in a cream suit, killer DKNY heels and a Chanel bag, this day could NOT go wrong, I grabbed my car keys and headed down to the parking lot.

It was just 6:45, I was feeling so high like I had done the four C’s that morning! pu pu, the sound of my car opening as I approached the Toyota Camry aka The eye, being a bank manager was no easy task but it certainly had its perks.

I have to drive everyday from Royal Garden Estate at Yaba to Victoria Island; I really should move I had told myself several times. As I got on Third Mainland Bridge, there was no sign of a build up of traffic until I got to Ikoyi, wow this day was definitely something fairy tales were made of, I had thought and I could hear Angels in heaven singing!

Stepping out of my car, parked in the reserved parking lot of the bank, I could already feel the stares. Walking through the reception, as the staff scrambled to welcome me. This weave is really something I said flipping my hair to answer a call that had just come in. I got to my door, marked Ms Romola, and opened it as the cleaning lady was finishing her bit. Thank you I muttered and shut the door behind me. The call that had come in was news that my brother had been discharged. This day was already so great and it wasn’t even 8 am yet! God I thank you.

EVERYTHING was going so well, everyone was smiling at me, at a point I had to go check if anything wrong with me in the bathroom. I was enjoying myself seriously until. . . Yeas there is always that point, but yeah, nothing happened. My day was perfectly alright except for one teeny weenie problem, I went back to my empty house and that was it for the day, so I thought. A good day it was….. my last thoughts as I sunk to my knees, the world spinning, my weave now raven tinged with crimson.

My Enright house I

A place where desires die
and the feeling of lost is awoken.

A place where reality screams
and your senses are unfrozen

A place where you'd beg not to be
and your masks are open.

A place, mine
all mine.

it keeps calling out to me

tis the only way i could breathe

When the very air outside this house

is filled with chaos and angst arouse

I will be here in this welcome cocoon

safe from the fearsome noon

its my house

and its mine

All mine

Cuckoo

The Bird Flew over the Cuckoo nest, away away!!

In my house, We have this Sun Window that is way up and opposite the sliding doors.

The window cannot be opened, its just to allow sun filter into the room. . . .

One day, this bird flies into the house through the open sliding doors.

It sees the sun window and thinks, i could go out to the skies!!!!

only to get there and be met by glass, it begins to try and try

i must get to the SKY! it chirps.

It tries and tries, until its strength ebbs away and it falls

down down

to its Concrete Grave.
